Join us as we bring awareness to Black women's names and stories.
This demonstration was inspired by the countless Black women whose lives were lost as a result of police violence. More recently, Breonna Taylor was unfortunately one of these victims. On March 13, 2020 she was murdered in her own home by Louisville police officers following an unjust no-knock warrant. Officers entered her home in the middle of the night, shooting her eight times and killing her. No charges or arrests have been made for the officers that murdered her.
Violence against Black women is not limited to police brutality. The body of 19-year-old activist Oluwatoyin "Toyin" Salau was recently found after she went missing on June 6, 2020 after tweeting about her sexual assault following a protest. She fought for us and we must do the same for her. Black women's stories must be told. We must say their names.
This event will last eight hours to recognize the eight gun shots Breonna Taylor suffered.
On July 4th we will not celebrate independence day, as Black lives in America are still devalued. We will speak the names of Black women and bring awareness to their stories through demonstration, vocalization, and advocacy.
